Master the Game 🏆
Hi Income Flippers,
Two real estate entrepreneurs start on the exact same day, they get the exact same training and are given the exact same formula for success, but one is engaged and focused and the other seems apprehensive and nervous.
With that basic description, who do you think will be more successful?
If you are like most you would select the person who is engaged and focused and you would be right.
Why? Because you can physically see the manifestation of their inner world by how they interact with the outer world.
One has empowering and loving thoughts about themselves while the other has negative and disempowering thoughts, both types of thinking will set the trajectory of their future forever.
Positive:
You can do this.
You can accomplish anything you set your mind to.
It's going to be hard but the end goal is worth it.
Just keep moving forward.
You are a champion.
If it's going to be, it will be me.
Negative:
I am not sure I can do this.
I'm not very good at new things.
This is a lot of hard work.
I'm tired today.
I don't want to fail.
If it's going to be will it be me?
One identity is full of doubt and one is full of faith.
Which type of thinking serves you best?
Faith is one of the most powerful forces in the universe and when you know how to tap into faith, your life changes forever for the better.
You probably saying to yourself, is that it? Is that the secret to massive success in life and business?
It really is that simple and yet it's not.
Those thoughts and programs have been at work since the day you were born.
Let's explore them in more detail.
In this newsletter in 5 minutes or less...
Shape your vision, shape your world.
The 4 foundational pillars I use to help me build.
Today, I'm 50...holly Sh%%!
Income Flip Framework —Shape Your Vision, Shape Your World.
Your life experiences have contributed to how you see the world and how you interact with it. It's shaped you, molded you, and influenced your entire universe, and stepping outside of that can be scary unless you have a compelling reason to change.
And once you do, it can be done in an instant!
What do I mean?
You can change the course of your life with the snap of your fingers by making a decision to create a new vision of yourself.
I'm here to tell you that you can shape new thoughts, new beliefs, and new habits to lead to the outcomes you are looking for, but you are going to have to decide that you WANT to change.
Change is hard and more importantly, many of us don't believe we need to change because our mental map is set and we are doing ok.
But turn inward, take a deep look inside, and ask yourself these questions...
Is my life currently where I want it to be?
Do I have the relationships in my life that I want?
Do I have the career that I want?
Have I created the income and wealth that I want?
Do I have the health that I want?
Am I spiritually connected to my source?
Have I created the impact I want to create?
Am I living my truth?
If the answer is "no," which I would dare to say is most of us, then something has to change and that something is us.
A few years ago I was in a private mastermind with Gary Keller discussing expansion and this is what he said;
"You have to build your world by beginning with the end in mind and then working backward."
Seems logical right, how are you ever going to get where you are going if you don't have a destination of where you are going?
But let me ask you something...
Do you have a plan for growing deep and meaningful relationships?
Do you have a health plan?
A wealth plan? A career plan? An impact plan?
Maybe you do in 1 or 2 areas of your life, but have you given thought and energy to the others?
Maybe you got the money thing down, but your health is suffering.
Or perhaps your health is awesome, but your relationships are a mess.
You might be asking yourself what the heck does any of this have to do with real estate or creating wealth?
Everything!
If you start building without a solid foundation your house is at risk of falling down. so you might as well build a solid foundation from the start if you plan on building a big life, which I assume you do, otherwise, you wouldn't be reading this.
Oh, and by the way, if you find yourself in a season of life where you are tearing down to start again you are not alone.
In fact, that is part of the process of learning and growing. It's the rare person that gets it right the first time and if that person does exist (maybe that is you), I would love to interview you on my podcast to learn how you did it.
So let me lay out the 4 pillars that I believe are critical to set your foundation on solid ground.
Countless books and studies have been done on each of these subjects so what I plan to do is give you my shortcuts based on my real-world experience and 20 years of reading, learning, failing, succeeding, and continuously growing in each of these subjects.
Pillar #1) Identity
The way you look at yourself matters. The way you talk to yourself matters. The way you treat yourself matters. The way you love yourself matters.
When was the last time you took the time to assess how you love yourself?
Here is the life hack —you create love for yourself (self-worth) by keeping your promises to yourself and doing hard things.
Isn't that interesting, the shortcut in life happens by doing the things that most people avoid.
What is fascinating is that life often creates circumstances that force us to confront hard things and it's these very things that challenge us, shape us, and forge us in fire. What a gift!
Or is it?
Well, that depends on how you look at things, and how you look at things is leading you in a certain direction.
The question becomes, are you aware of the direction it's leading you in?
This is where your mindset (mental framework) matters so let's jump to Pillar #2... Mindset/Perspective.
Pillar #2) Mindest / Perspective
I have already touched a bit on perspective but I will add the following excerpt I sent to my team via email for additional color.
Memo—What do you focus on?
Do you focus on the good or do you focus on the bad?
Do you focus on the positive or do you focus on the negative?
Some people see the glass as half empty, and others see the glass as half full. Your filter of the world will determine the trajectory of your life. What meaning do you give something when life happens?
The meaning you give it creates how you feel, and how you feel will determine the quality of your life. Is life happening FOR you or is life happening TO you?
Some people associate a positive meaning, others associate a negative meeting.
Everything is perspective. The action you take based on your filter and the meaning you give it ultimately leads you to an outcome.
Some people take positive action, some people take negative action. The action you take compounds over time and will determine the outcome of your life.
Here are some things I want you to think about...
Do you find yourself complaining a lot about outside factors or circumstances? Is it always someone else's fault?
Or
Do you see opportunity all around you and feel gratitude and love for everything you have?
I can promise you this... If you look for the fault you will find fault, if you look for good you will find good. What channel is your frequency on? Your frequency is leading you in a certain direction.
Pay attention to it.
Sobering fun fact...take a look around at how you feel and what you have. Your thinking, feelings, and actions have brought you to where you currently are.
Is this where you want to be?
You have the ability to change the channel.
You are in control of your world.
You are the captain of your ship.
Use this weekend to focus on opportunity, on all the good, and all the love that surrounds you.
Keep Moving Forward,
Rob
I wrote the message above to my team early in 2023, the real estate market was shifting and I could see some of my young leaders starting to struggle with self-doubt.
For many, this is their first market shift and it's important they have a solid foundation and mental model to carry themselves through.
Pillar #3) Energy
I probably should have started with energy because people always ask me, "How do you have so much energy?"
I am fully aware that my DNA plays a role (thank you past ancestors) but I am also aware that from a young age, I focused on things that served me and eliminated those that didn't.
Luckily, growing up and playing competitive sports taught me that my "energy" actions compounded over time and gave me the energy I needed to compete at a high level.
Those were my:
Thoughts
Relationships
Workouts
Nutrition
Sleep
Health
And when I think of energy I think of health.
For example, I learned early on that drinking made me feel tired and unproductive which didn't match my identity (see how I did that) so over time, I eliminated alcohol.
I also noticed that if I ate a lot of carbs or overeat I would feel tired and sluggish.
I don't like feeling tired or sluggish so I stopped eating a lot of the crap that made me feel that way.
I also noticed that I functioned way better if I went to bed at 10:00 PM and got up at 5:30 AM. The time didn't matter, what mattered was that I created consistency in my sleep pattern.
It's really rare that I break this cycle, sure...I may sleep in a little more on the weekends but I am consistently turning off the lights at 10 pm.
When I wake up I feel like a million bucks.
I get up, grab a glass of water and a cup of coffee, and then use the next 2 hours for learning and thinking.
I find that I am most creative early in the morning and I use that time to work on myself. Early in my career, I would go to the gym early in the morning and then head off to work.
Today I value my quiet and learning time and I have created a habit of doing yoga late afternoon or early evening.
Yoga makes me feel great and I'm constantly telling my wife that every time I finish a session, I feel like I have given myself a gift.
Let me be clear—I'm not advising you to get up at 5:30 AM, eat fewer carbs, or do yoga.
I'm advising you to listen to your body and do the things that increase your energy and eliminate those that don't. This includes people.
Often it's about eliminating things not adding things.
Pillar #4) Community
In the book "Blue Zones" by Dan Buettner, he discusses the 9 habits that contribute to people living to 100 years of age and over, and number 9 is about hanging out with the right tribe.
Proximity matters.
You adopt the habits and thoughts of those you surround yourself with in all areas of your life —happiness, health, wealth, and spirituality.
Your community becomes part of your family and that family contributes to your overall well-being.
Without fully understanding the science behind it, I founded The GRID Investor Network (GRID) because I had a burning desire to be surrounded by real estate entrepreneurs, (landlords, investors, agents, lenders, etc) because I love being around the energy of the person that wants to build something.
That energy gives me fire and the GRID Community has given me access to relationships that have transformed my life.
Community Matters.
Today I am 50, holy sh%%!
It's crazy, today I'm 50, and as I type that number out it blows my mind!
Truthfully, I feel like I'm just getting started and that I'm still a kid.
I have my vision, I know my purpose and I have a shit load of gas in the tank, and while it's too early to announce anything, let me tease it up by saying that it's probably going to be the single biggest change I've made since I went full time into real estate in 2005.
Stay tuned.
In the meantime, have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday.
Your friend,
Rob
